Welcome to Folly View Holiday Cottage. We offer a self-catering retreat on the edge of Lake Windermere. A charming barn conversion located on a private estate on the shores of Lake Windermere. The ground floor apartment sleeps 4 comfortably. Fully equipped kitchen diner with patio spilling out onto the lawn. This apartment is ideal for the explorer wanting to take to the water, go hiking or cycling.


Our Holiday Cottage Story

The barn was converted in the 1970's and won an English heritage award at the time. It is situated in the grounds of Stock Park Estate, once one of the largest Estates in the South Lakes. The Estate comprises mainly of stone cottages and a large mansion, giving unrivalled tranquility and lake frontage.
Locally there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and pub diners for those who don't want to cook. Loads of attractions for those looking for a relaxing time or those with a more energetic agenda. For local shopping there is a very well-stocked Service Station/Supermarket nearby at Newby Bridge. Also Ulverston is only a 10 minute drive with an M&S Food Hall, Booths and Aldi supermarkets.


The Romans
Follow in the footsteps of the Romans by visiting two other Roman sites in the area, once linked to Hardknott by a Roman road. From the remains of the bath house at Ravenglass, the road went east to Hardknott, and from there it descended to the shores of Lake Windermere, and to Ambleside Roman Fort.

Stott Park Bobbin Mill

Welcome to the last working bobbin mill in the Lake District, located on the scenic shores of Lake Windermere in Cumbria. Here, you can explore the fascinating history of an industry that once produced millions of wooden bobbins essential for Lancashire's spinning and weaving. Join us for engaging tours and exhibitions that showcase the journey from tree to bobbin, all while witnessing the original-driven machinery in action. Families will enjoy our hands-on trail, complete with dressing up activities for children to what life was like at the mill.

Lakeside Railway
Lakeside railway station is a charming stop on the heritage Lakeside Haverthwaite Railway, once serving as the terminus for the Furness Railway's Ulverston-Lakeside Line before its closure 1965. Windermere lake
Windermere, largest natural lake in England, boasts a rich history of commercial traffic In the early 19th century, sailing packets traversed the lake, both passengers and goods. Notably, the paddle steamer Lady of the Lake, launched in 1845 by the Windermere Steam Yacht Company, was the first steamship to navigate not only Windermere any lake in England.
